What most often stops me from listening and truly hearing what someone is saying?

Those deceptive things called WORDS.

I can glean more Truth, more of the Essence of what a person REALLY means without them saying a word. And it's much more Honest and straightforward.

Though this can backfire at times, when people want me to buy into the words and not the ill-intent behind all the pretty vocabulary.
